One of the many exhibitions that Oona Grimes’s work has been shown in was called Uncanny Tales. It is an apt title for her work; her images are unsettling and enigmatic. Freud described the uncanny as “everything that ought to remain hidden but has come to light”. Grimes writes of wanting to reveal “the cadences of the social and psychological deviations that dwell beneath a sanitized, orderly veneer.”
