Franki Austin

There is a strong element of palimpsest in Franki Austin’s work: images, texts, individual words can be glimpsed in the luminous fields of light that she creates. With many of her paintings, it’s as if we are looking through falling snow or the fading dusk While living in Hong Kong, Malaysia and India, Austin found the juxtaposition of cultural values a rich seam to explore. Relationships and spaces – between societies, times and individuals – have become her subject.
