Simulacra Kayde Anobile

9 March – 9 April 2011

Doubles, doppelgängers, pairs and paradoxes are the basis of Kayde Anobile’s evolving exploration of simulacraand the uncanny: two portraits, seemingly identical; yeti-like creatures mirroring themselves and each other, and a peep show that confounds expectations.

The two installations presented in Simulacra draw on ideas of illusion, and of creating illusory spaces with the simplest of methods, principally through light and mirrors. Anobile cites the Victorian fascination with freaks and freak shows presented in carnivals and circuses as her source.
